Mission

The Homeland Security Services Section as part of the Division for Law Enforcement, Homeland Security, and Institutional Research at the Texas School Safety Center facilitates planning, training, and exercising with the goal of improving emergency preparedness and community resilience in Texas public schools and community colleges.

Goals:

Enhance the safety and preparedness of schools in Texas as outlined in Section 3.2.4 Objective 2.4 of the Texas Homeland Security Strategic plan.

  1. Ensure the availability of enhanced web-based tools to conduct vulnerability self-assessments and meet security audit requirements.
  2. Ensure the availability of enhanced web-based emergency operations planning tools to develop school safety and emergency response plans.
  3. Ensure the availability of train-the-trainer programs to educate school officials on all aspects of security-related school safety.
  4. Ensure schools participate in drills and all-hazards exercises.
  5. Incorporate and implement Citizen Corps programs through training and outreach in schools to emphasize student and staff preparedness and safety.
